Celebrate new PILSharmonic + 22-23 Season Announcement 2/26

Rochester, NY, February 17, 2022 – The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) and Three Heads Brewing will celebrate their new collaboration – Rochester PILSharmonic – and the upcoming announcement of the orchestra’s 2022-23 Season (Thursday, February 24) with a PILSharmonic Tasting & Season Announcement Event on Saturday, February 26 from 2-5 p.m. at Three Heads Brewing (186 Atlantic Ave., 14607).

The event is free and open to the public as well as to RPO conductors, musicians, and staff. Free tastings of the new PILSharmonic beer will be on tap, with local band Oktoberbones on the Three Heads stage. The German-style brass band is made up of RPO musicians Lisa Albrecht (trombone) and W. Craig Sutherland (tuba), along with other local professional trombonists Heather Buchman and Malcom Williamson.

“We’ve been playing New York State biergartens – and even some in Germany and Austria – for more than a decade,” says Lisa Albrecht.  “To play for this occasion, though, is extra special and we’re delighted!”

Attendees with tickets for either of next week’s performances of Andreas Conducts Beethoven in Kodak Hall (Thursday, Feb. 24 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 26 at 8 p.m.) will get $1 off draft pints during the event. The RPO is also offering an exclusive 25%-off discount code for one-time use towards the current season’s concerts to attendees who order drafts – first come/first served.

The new beer made its debut last week with a special trumpet fanfare by RPO musicians Herb Smith, Doug Prosser, and Wes Nance, followed by the tapping of the first keg of Rochester PILSharmonic in the Three Heads Tasting Room.

“We love this city and everyone who makes it such an amazing place to be. Partnering with the RPO is a no-brainer since it’s been such an institution in this city for as long as we can remember,” says Three Heads Brewing’s Minister of Mayhem Geoff Dale. “We’ve been kicking around this idea for a couple of years and are so honored to have this come to fruition.”

The German-style Pilsner is brewed with Bohemian Pilsner Malt; German Perle, Saphir and Hallertau Tradition Hops; and Traditional Bavarian Yeast. The new beer will be carried by area Wegmans and also makes an appearance in next Thursday’s digital RPO 2022-23 Season Announcement by Music Director Andreas Delfs and Principal Pops Conductor Jeff Tyzik.

“I really enjoyed hanging out with Andreas at the brewery and talking about my two favorite subjects: music and the RPO,” says Jeff. “Add to that, a superb new Pilsner to taste and you have a very special morning. YES, I did drink a beer at 10:30 a.m. in the spirit of this special occasion.”
