Rochester, NY, March 2, 2022 – Your Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) has rescheduled the final two concerts originally scheduled for January 2022, when Eastman School of Music’s Kodak Hall temporarily closed. New dates and times are as follows:
- Tchaikovsky & Rodrigo (formerly Danzmayr Returns) on Thursday, June 9 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, June 11 at 8 p.m. in Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre. Conductor/composer Carlos Izcaray (music director of both Alabama Symphony Orchestra and American Youth Symphony) steps in to lead a blockbuster program featuring the RPO debut of rising star guitarist JIJI (Jiji Kim) performing Joaquin Rodrigo’s famous Concierto de Aranjuez for Guitar and Orchestra. Opening the evening is Icarus, a piece by contemporary composer Lera Auerbach, one of today’s most sought-after and exciting creative voices worldwide, who is equally prolific in literature and the visual arts. Tchaikovsky’s powerful and urgent Fourth Symphony, a staple in the orchestral repertoire, closes out this rescheduled program. A pre-concert talk begins one hour prior to the concert.
- Jurassic Park in Concert on Saturday, July 2 at 2 p.m. & 6:30 p.m. in Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre. Audiences will experience the original, action-packed adventure pitting humans against prehistoric predators projected in HD on the big screen while the RPO performs John Williams’ iconic score live under the baton of conductor Nicholas Buc.
Patrons who hold tickets for the originally scheduled concert will receive updated tickets (same seats) with the new concert date. Alternatively, they may exchange tickets to a different show within our 2021-22 season, donate the value for a tax credit, or receive a ticket credit. This just in: Pianist Xiayin Wang will replace Olga Kern, who has cancelled due to illness, in this weekend’s originally titled Olga Plays Gershwin on Thursday, March 3 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, March 5 at 8 p.m. in Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre. Ms. Wang will bring her extraordinary talent to Gershwin’s jazzy Concerto in F, also known as his “New York Concerto.” Now entitled Gershwin & Ginastera, this rhythm-filled celebration of culture also features Alberto Ginastera’s Four Dances from Estancia and Gershwin’s Cuban Overture. Closing the program will be the Rochester premiere of contemporary composer Gabriela Lena Frank’s Leyendas (Legends): An Andean Walkabout. Guest conducted by Cincinnati Symphony’s François López-Ferrer, each evening’s performance will include a pre-concert talk one hour prior to curtain.
Tickets start at $30 for adults/$18 for children (ages 3-17), and are available online anytime at rpo.org, by phone at 585-454-2100 (Monday-Friday, 10 am –5 pm, please note that the Patron Services Center is currently closed to in-person purchases), and in person one hour prior to curtain at the Eastman Theatre Box Office (433 East Main St.) for Kodak Hall concerts.
Please note: The RPO will announce any COVID protocol changes prior to these concerts. Current protocols call for patrons aged 5 and up to show proof of vaccination, and all patrons are required to wear surgical, KN95, or N95 masks during the entire performance. Venue capacity is currently at 65%.
